A regional eSIM simplifies travel, but the actual connection still comes from local mobile networks. Signal strength and speed can change with the city, building, terrain, congestion and phone model. Knowing the partner networks helps you troubleshoot more effectively.

Networks used in each country

The China, Japan & South Korea eSIM can use China Telecom and China Unicom in China, KDDI and SoftBank in Japan, and LG U+ and SK Telecom in South Korea. Available service includes 5G where supported, along with 4G and LTE.

A 5G-capable phone does not guarantee 5G everywhere. The local partner, device frequency bands, network load and exact location all influence the connection.

Speeds can therefore change during the same day and route.

Coverage in China

Major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen generally provide stronger urban coverage than mountains or remote rural districts. High-speed rail tunnels, underground areas and thick building walls may cause brief interruptions. Leave network selection on automatic when first connecting.

Coverage in Japan

The plan can connect through KDDI or SoftBank. Tokyo, Osaka and other large cities are typically easier environments for mobile service, while mountain routes, remote countryside and smaller islands may be less consistent. Trains moving through tunnels can also create temporary changes.

Coverage in South Korea

LG U+ and SK Telecom provide the supported networks. Seoul, Busan and other urban areas generally offer broad mobile availability, but basements, enclosed stations, mountains and rural regions can affect reception. Give the device time to register after landing.

Coverage maps are useful for general planning, but they cannot predict reception inside every hotel, station or train. For a fair test, move to an open area, disable Wi-Fi and load a new webpage. A phone may also show signal bars before the data session is fully established, so wait briefly after changing networks.

Improve a weak connection

Confirm that the travel eSIM is selected for mobile data and that roaming is enabled for that line. Use automatic network selection first. If service stalls, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, switch it off and wait. Restart the phone if needed, but do not delete the eSIM.
