China, Hong Kong & Macau eSIM Installation & Hotspot Guide

Traveler setting up an eSIM and sharing a hotspot with multiple devices

Installing an eSIM is only the first part of the setup. Your phone must also use the new profile for mobile data, allow roaming on that line and register with a supported network. Completing these checks before travel makes arrival in China, Hong Kong or Macau much easier.

Before installing the eSIM

Confirm that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Connect to stable Wi-Fi, keep the order email available on another screen if possible, and follow the installation details supplied with your plan. Do not delete the profile after it has been added.

The EasyTripGo China, Hong Kong & Macau eSIM offers fixed-data choices from 3GB to 50GB with validity from 3 to 30 days. Choose a package that covers the whole itinerary before beginning the setup.

Select the correct mobile-data line

After installation, give the eSIM a clear label such as “EasyTripGo Travel.” In your phone’s SIM or cellular settings, switch on the travel eSIM and select it as the mobile-data line. Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM. If you keep your home SIM enabled, make sure it is not still selected for data.

Use automatic network selection first. The supported partners are China Unicom and China Telecom in China, CSL in Hong Kong and CTM in Macau. Available service can include 5G where supported, plus 4G and LTE.

Using a personal hotspot

If your phone and plan permit tethering, open the personal hotspot settings and connect the second device using the password shown on your phone. Hotspot use draws from the same data allowance and can consume it quickly, especially during video calls, software downloads or cloud backups. Keep automatic updates disabled and monitor usage.

If the hotspot option is unavailable, first confirm that mobile data works on the phone itself. Restart the phone, then check the hotspot menu again. Device software and carrier settings can affect whether the option appears.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

If mobile data does not work, verify the selected data SIM, data roaming and automatic network selection. Turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds and then off. Restart the phone if necessary and test in an open area. Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting.
