Africa eSIM Installation and Hotspot Guide

Install your Africa eSIM within 90 days of purchase, but remember that installation starts the selected plan duration immediately. Prepare your phone and instructions ahead of time; choose the installation moment to match the days you actually need. These plans support hotspot and provide data without a phone number.

Compare the three Africa eSIM options

Before installation

  1. Confirm that your exact phone model and regional version support eSIM and that the device is carrier-unlocked.
  2. Check every destination against your selected product's list. Use the Africa coverage comparison; the three lists are not interchangeable.
  3. Keep your order email and installation instructions accessible. Treat the QR code as private and do not share it publicly.
  4. Arrange a reliable internet connection, such as Wi-Fi, for downloading the eSIM profile.
  5. Check the selected duration against the time from installation to your final required day of service.

Install with the supplied instructions

For an iPhone, follow the add-eSIM flow in cellular settings and use the QR-code option when provided. Apple describes supported installation methods in its official eSIM setup guide. Android menus differ by manufacturer and software version; use the device maker's instructions together with the EasyTripGo installation email.

Give the travel line a clear label, such as “Africa travel.” Do not interpret a completed profile download as proof of signal in a country that your selected plan does not cover. Setup, plan timing and network registration are different parts of the process.

Set up mobile data at your destination

Turn on the installed travel line and select it for mobile data. Follow your plan's instructions for data roaming and APN settings. Do not copy an APN from an unrelated product or choose an unsupported network just because it appears in the phone's list.

Review automatic data switching so the phone does not unexpectedly use your home line. Keep home-line data roaming off unless you deliberately want that service and understand your provider's charges. These settings do not make home-line calls or messages free.

Share a hotspot

  1. First check that the phone itself can browse using the travel eSIM with Wi-Fi off.
  2. Enable Personal Hotspot or the equivalent Android hotspot feature.
  3. Set a strong password and connect your laptop or tablet to that hotspot.
  4. Pause automatic backups, large downloads and software updates on connected devices when they are not needed.
  5. Monitor data use and battery level, and turn the hotspot off after use.

Hotspot traffic uses the same plan allowance as the phone. On Unlimited, the phone and connected devices share the daily 1GB high-speed allowance. After it is used, the connection is limited to up to 5Mbps until the daily reset; each connected device does not receive its own separate 5Mbps entitlement.

Plan rules to know before buying

  • Unlimited: 1GB of high-speed data per day, then unlimited data at up to 5Mbps. The high-speed allowance resets daily. This is not unlimited full-speed data.
  • Installation window: install within 90 days of purchase.
  • Validity: the selected plan duration starts at installation, not on arrival or first data use.
  • Hotspot: supported on compatible devices; connected devices share the same plan allowance.
  • Service: data only, with no phone number or included conventional calls and SMS.

If data does not connect

Check that you are in a listed destination, that the plan has not expired, and that the travel line is selected for mobile data. Review the supplied roaming and APN instructions, then try toggling airplane mode or restarting the phone. After a border crossing, allow time for network registration.

If the problem continues, contact EasyTripGo support on WhatsApp with your order reference, location, phone model and screenshots of the relevant settings. Do not delete the eSIM as a first troubleshooting step; confirm recovery options with support first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I scan the QR code before departure?

Yes, but the plan clock begins at installation. Install near departure or choose enough validity to cover the time before arrival as well.

What time does the daily high-speed allowance reset?

It resets daily. Check the plan instructions or ask support for the applicable reset schedule; do not assume local midnight.

Will turning off the eSIM pause its validity?

No. The selected duration continues from installation, even while the line is turned off.
