Does Using an eSIM Drain Your Phone Battery?

Battery troubleshooting steps for a phone using a travel eSIM

Using an eSIM does not automatically mean that your phone will have severe battery drain. In practice, battery use is more often affected by signal strength, network searching, 5G activity, two enabled lines, hotspot use, navigation, screen time, and background apps.

Check what is using the battery

Open the phone's Battery settings and review usage by app and system service. Navigation, video, camera uploads, social apps, VPNs, and Personal Hotspot can consume much more power than the eSIM profile itself.

Weak coverage can increase consumption

A phone may use more power while searching for a network or maintaining a weak connection. Move near a window or outdoors, wait for registration, and select a supported partner network if automatic selection is unstable. See our weak eSIM signal guide.

Try these battery-saving checks

  • Use LTE or 4G temporarily if 5G is weak or unstable.
  • Turn off an unused SIM line when you do not need calls or SMS.
  • Disable automatic data switching unless it is required.
  • Disconnect Personal Hotspot when it is not in use.
  • Pause cloud backups and large background downloads.
  • Reduce screen brightness and close unnecessary navigation sessions.

If you need your primary line for OTP messages or calls, keep it enabled but disable its data roaming. Do not delete either eSIM merely to test battery use; turn a line off temporarily instead.

Compare under the same conditions

Battery percentage can change quickly after a flight, software update, long navigation session, or poor-signal journey. Compare battery use over a similar period and location. If the drain continues even on Wi-Fi with the travel line off, the cause is probably not the eSIM connection.

If the battery problem appears only when the EasyTripGo line is active, send the phone model, location, selected network, signal strength, and battery screenshot to official@easytripgo.com or WhatsApp.
