Thailand eSIM Installation & Hotspot Guide: When to Install and How to Share Data

Your Thailand eSIM service duration begins when you install it. Prepare your phone and instructions first, then install when you are ready for the clock to run. Hotspot is supported, but connected devices share your plan's allowance and any speed cap.

These instructions cover the EasyTripGo Thailand eSIM supporting AIS and Truemove. Use the settings supplied with your order if a device menu or profile-specific detail differs.

Keep the three timing rules separate

Rule Meaning
90-day activation window Activate within 90 days after purchase; this is not 90 days of included service
Purchased duration Starts at installation, including any time before arrival
Unlimited daily reset 1GB high-speed per day, then unlimited data at up to 5Mbps until reset; confirm the reset schedule if needed

Installing before departure is possible, but consumes part of your plan during travel. Choose duration from installation through the final time you need data, not simply by the number of hotel nights. Do not assume switching the line off pauses its expiry.

Before scanning the QR code

  • Verify the exact phone model and regional version supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
  • Connect to reliable Wi-Fi or another working internet connection.
  • Open the order email and keep installation details accessible, using another screen for scanning if needed.
  • Keep QR codes and activation details private.
  • Check that installation now leaves enough duration for the trip.

Apple's official eSIM setup guide describes iPhone setup methods. Android menus differ by device. Follow your manufacturer's instructions and the order details rather than assuming every phone supports the same shortcuts.

Install and choose the travel data line

  1. Open the phone's mobile network or SIM settings and select Add eSIM.
  2. Use the supplied QR code or a supported alternative described in your order.
  3. Complete the installation prompts; this starts the selected plan duration.
  4. Label the new line clearly, for example Thailand Travel.
  5. When using the service in Thailand, enable it and select it for mobile data.
  6. Enable roaming on the travel line as instructed in the order. Disable unwanted home-line data roaming and automatic data switching.
  7. Briefly turn Wi-Fi off and test a simple webpage through the travel eSIM.

Leave network selection on automatic initially unless your instructions say otherwise. AIS and Truemove support does not mean any network visible in a scan will accept the profile. 5G depends on device, service and location; 4G/LTE may be used instead.

Keep your home number separate

The Thailand eSIM is data-only, without a Thai number or standard calls/SMS bundle. Internet messaging and calling apps can use its data. Keeping your home number active requires the home line and a supported phone configuration, with your carrier's own terms.

If you need bank texts or ordinary calls, check availability and charges separately. Disabling home-line data roaming does not rule out every possible voice, SMS or Wi-Fi calling charge.

Turn on hotspot

  1. Confirm mobile data works on the host phone without Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Personal Hotspot on iPhone or hotspot/tethering settings on Android.
  3. Set a strong password and enable sharing.
  4. Connect the second device to the phone's hotspot Wi-Fi network.
  5. Disable sharing when finished and monitor battery and usage.

On a fixed 10GB plan, the phone and laptop share the same 10GB. On Unlimited, all traffic shares the daily 1GB high-speed allowance; after it, devices share a connection capped at up to 5Mbps until the daily reset. Each connected device does not get a separate high-speed allocation.

Pause unnecessary updates and cloud backups before connecting a laptop. Hotspot also requires the devices to remain within range and the host phone to stay powered and connected. Separate plans may be more practical when travelers split up during the day.

Troubleshoot without deleting the profile first

  • No data: check that the travel line is enabled, selected for mobile data and configured according to the order.
  • Slow data: check remaining allowance, the daily fair-use threshold, expiry and local conditions.
  • Hotspot has no internet: first test data on the host phone, then reconnect the other device.
  • Installation error: keep the profile and ask support before repeated scans or deletion.

If needed, contact EasyTripGo on WhatsApp with your order reference, phone model, location and error message. Keep the activation QR code out of public screenshots. Support can advise whether replacement activation details are needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy now and install later?

Yes, within the 90-day activation window. Buying in advance does not require installing immediately.

Can I add more data to the existing plan?

Do not assume top-up or extension is available. Purchase a new plan when you need more service and follow its instructions.

Is the hotspot a backup for remote trips?

It shares the phone's mobile connection; it cannot create coverage where that connection is unavailable. Prepare appropriate alternatives for remote or offshore activities.

Choose your Thailand eSIM plan and check timing before installation.
