If web pages work but messages or notifications arrive late, the eSIM connection may be fine. The cause is often an app permission, background data restriction, battery optimization, Data Saver, Low Data Mode, VPN, or notification setting.
First confirm that mobile data works
Turn Wi-Fi off and open a new website. If it does not load, troubleshoot the eSIM connection first. If browsing works, continue with the app checks below.
Check the affected app
- Make sure notifications are allowed for the app.
- Allow the app to use mobile data.
- Allow background data or unrestricted data if the alerts are important.
- Check that the app is signed in and not paused or force-stopped.
- Open the app manually to see whether messages appear immediately.
Phone menu names vary by brand and software version. On some Android phones, roaming or mobile data can also be restricted separately for each app. See our guide for apps that do not work on eSIM.
Review battery and data-saving settings
Battery Saver, background activity limits, iPhone Low Data Mode, and Android Data Saver can reduce how often apps refresh. Temporarily disable the relevant restriction and test again. You can also allow unrestricted background access only for essential apps instead of changing every app.
Test network filters
Temporarily disconnect VPN, Private DNS, ad blocking, or security filters. Then toggle Airplane Mode for 30 seconds and test again. If notifications return, re-enable the tools one at a time to identify the conflict.
Keep data usage in mind
Allowing background activity can increase mobile data and battery consumption. After fixing the problem, monitor your usage and keep unrestricted access only for apps you need. Our Low Data Mode and Data Saver guide explains the trade-off.
