Why Is Your eSIM Hotspot Slower Than the Phone?

Steps to improve a travel eSIM hotspot that is slower than the phone

A hotspot adds another wireless connection between your phone and the connected device. Speed can therefore be lower than it is directly on the phone. Wi-Fi distance, interference, several connected devices, background downloads, battery-saving settings, and plan restrictions can all affect tethering.

Test mobile data on the phone first

Turn the hotspot off and open a webpage using the phone itself. If data is also slow there, fix the mobile connection first with our slow eSIM guide. Confirm the EasyTripGo line is selected for data, roaming is on, and the plan has remaining data.

Check hotspot availability

Hotspot support depends on the specific plan. Some plans may not support tethering or may apply a separate allowance. Check the product and delivery instructions before changing APN settings.

Improve the hotspot connection

  1. Keep the connected device close to the phone.
  2. Disconnect devices you are not using.
  3. Pause laptop updates, cloud sync, and backups.
  4. Try 5 GHz for nearby devices or 2.4 GHz for greater range, if available.
  5. Restart the hotspot and reconnect.
  6. Keep the phone charged and cool.

If the connected device has a VPN, disconnect it temporarily for testing. Run at most one speed test. See hotspot setup troubleshooting and how to stop automatic data use.

If the hotspot remains unusually slow

Do not delete the eSIM. Send your order number, plan name, phone and connected-device models, APN screenshot, number of connected devices, and one comparison result to official@easytripgo.com or WhatsApp. If the data allowance is exhausted, purchase a new plan.
