For a week in Hong Kong, compare your likely total data use with how much you need on your busiest day. Fixed data offers a total allowance across the trip; unlimited offers 1GB high-speed each day before a reduced-speed limit. Neither is automatically better for everyone.
A useful starting point is your phone’s usage history for a similar week. Add a buffer for sightseeing days without Wi-Fi, uploads and any laptop sharing. You can compare Hong Kong eSIM plans once you have an estimate.
Estimate a Budget from Your Own Habits
| Hypothetical daily use | Seven-day total | Planning starting point |
|---|---|---|
| 0.3GB | 2.1GB | 3GB leaves limited headroom; 5GB adds a buffer |
| 1GB | 7GB | A fixed 10GB plan leaves some headroom |
| 2GB | 14GB | Consider 20GB if you want a larger total allowance |
These are arithmetic examples, not measured averages or promises about app consumption. Social video, streaming quality, photo backups and laptop downloads can make two travelers’ data use very different.

What Happens After 1GB on Unlimited?
Unlimited fair usage: Each day includes 1GB of high-speed data, then unlimited data at up to 5Mbps. The high-speed allowance resets daily. This is not unlimited full-speed data, and 5Mbps is a speed limit rather than a guaranteed minimum. Check your supplied instructions or ask support for the exact reset time; do not assume it is midnight in your phone’s time zone.
If you use 2GB on one service day, the first 1GB is within the daily high-speed portion and later usage is subject to the speed limit until the daily reset. A seven-day unlimited plan is not a single unrestricted 7GB high-speed pool available whenever you choose. Do not assume unused daily high-speed data rolls over.
By contrast, a fixed 10GB allowance is a total for the period, not the unlimited plan’s daily 1GB structure. It may suit a traveler who uploads heavily on one day and uses much less on other days. Connection speeds still depend on the network and device.
Choose for Your Itinerary
Light city-break use
If you mainly use messages, booking details and occasional navigation, and have reliable Wi-Fi for downloads, a smaller fixed plan may be sufficient. Save maps and tickets beforehand and monitor usage during the trip.
Frequent photos and social media
Look at your current mobile-data history rather than guessing from hours spent online. Video autoplay and cloud backups can use data without a deliberate large download. A buffer helps when your trip has less Wi-Fi than expected.
Working from a laptop
Count both phone and laptop activity. Updates, file synchronization and video calls can substantially change the budget. Unlimited keeps data available after the daily portion, but its reduced-speed phase is not a guarantee of smooth work calls.
Make Sure Seven Days Covers Your Service Period
Installation starts your plan: Your selected service duration begins when you install this eSIM, not when you first connect in Hong Kong. The 90-day activation window after purchase is separate from your chosen service duration. Installing before departure uses part of that duration before arrival.
Installing two days before arrival consumes part of a seven-day duration before you reach Hong Kong. Buying and installing are separate decisions. Choose a duration that covers when you actually start the plan, including any time you choose to install before departure.
Check the supplied expiry information after setup. If your dates span more than the selected duration, choose a longer plan rather than relying on an assumed grace period.
Hotspot for Two Travelers
You can share data when devices are close enough for hotspot, but the allowance is shared. Two connected phones do not each receive a new 1GB daily high-speed quota. Separate eSIMs can be more convenient if you split up or want independent connections.
See the hotspot setup guide before relying on tethering for your trip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 5GB enough for a week?
It can be for a light user with frequent Wi-Fi, but it is not guaranteed. Estimate your own use and leave headroom.
Is 10GB / 7 Days a daily allowance?
No. It is 10GB total across the selected duration.
Can I use the plan in Macau?
Do not assume the Hong Kong single-destination product includes Macau. Check regional coverage before booking a cross-border itinerary.
What if I need more data?
You can purchase a new plan. If unsure whether you have exhausted data or have a connection issue, contact EasyTripGo on WhatsApp before buying again.
